Following the official opening of the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly, the President of the Republic, HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, also participated in the summit of Portuguese-speaking countries.
About 17 local time, members of the delegations of the Community of Portuguese-speaking Countries (CPLP) attended the summit convened by the President-in-Office of this organization and Brazilian representative, HE Michel Temer.
The purpose of the meetings of the leaders of Brazil, Sao Tome and Principe, the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, the Prime Ministers of Cape Verde, Guinea Bissau and East Timor, as well as the representatives of Portugal, Mozambique and Angola, has been working on the evolution and analysis concerning the level of implementation of the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
To this end, the attendees have presented different points of view that have allowed to adopt a common vision to overcome the challenges.
HE Obiang Nguema Mbasogo focused his speech on the achievements of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, with emphasis on social indicators.
He pointed out that the Horizon 2020 national development program is the instrument that has made it possible to implement the objectives of this agenda. It also appealed to all member countries of the CPLP to work under the principle of unity of criteria and solidarity, always maintaining dialogue and consensus among political and social actors, in order to overcome the factors that are detrimental to the development of countries.
