The Vice-President of the Republic, Charged with National Defence and State Security, Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue, arrived in Monrovia on Monday 22nd January, to attend the act in representation of H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo.
The capital of the Republic of Liberia, Monrovia, received various leaders from African countries, among representatives from countries on the European continent, America and Asia, in order to attend the act of investiture of George Manneh Weah, which took place from 19th to 22nd of this month.
At the Roberts International Airport in the capital of Liberia, H. E. Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue was received by a court of honour, made up of local figures, led by the Deputy Director General for Protocol and Ceremonies in Liberia, Lorens Anadjie and, for the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Agapito Mba Mokuy.
The director of the National Defence portfolio led the senior Equatoguinean delegation, which remained on Liberian soil for over eight hours.
The invitation came from the new President Elect of Liberia to the Head of State in our country, due to the good links between Malabo and Monrovia.
The activities planned for the celebration took place in the Samuel Kanyon Doe sports complex, in the presence of great crowds in a festive mood, and they also expected the participation of the Equatoguinean team led by the Vice-President of the Republic.
During the investiture, the national anthem, the priest’s blessing, the singing of a choir and the dissolution of the National Parliament served to open the act, followed by the swearing in of the President Elect and the Vice-President elect, in the presence of the President of the Liberian Supreme Court of Justice, Francis S. Korkpor.
This symbolic act of investiture of the only African football player to obtain the Golden Ball, followed the beating by an absolute majority of the political party of Robert Sirleaf, in the latest presidential elections held in 2017.
Following the investiture, in his speech, the new President promised loyalty to his people.
