Vice-President calls for greater transparency in work of Armed Forces’ senior commanders

Security and Defence want to improve the image of the uniformed corps and protocols of action within the Equatoguinean military family. This was the main message that the Vice-President of the Republic, H. E. Nguema Obiang Mangue, projected during his meeting on Wednesday 28th September with the high command of the Equatoguinean Armed Forces at the People’s Palace in Malabo.
In that regard, the Vice-President once again stressed that, as the person responsible for Defence and Security, he will always ensure that all the means and support that our State’s security forces need are provided.
He insisted that internal information must flow smoothly, and that the abuse of authority by some commanders must be totally eradicated, in addition to any economic imposition on the military for personal ends; since, he recalled, these practices encourage corruption and corrode the proper functioning of the army. For that reason, in addition to demanding more order in the functioning of their respective departments, he reiterated that he will not tolerate any act of corruption within the military, as they must serve as an example to the population.
To oversee this task, the head of Defence and Security has created a commission to identify the necessary adjustments to be made in all sub-sectors, and has set a deadline of one month to receive suggestions on these adjustments in order to implement mechanisms to improve the military corps.
