Welcome dinner for new Chinese Ambassador

The Chinese Embassy offered a reception on the afternoon of Thursday 25th, to mark the arrival of the new People’s republic of China Ambassador to Equatorial Guinea, Qi Mei, which took place at the Hotel Anda China, and was overseen by the Secretary of State from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, Maria A´┐Żngeles Miaga Bibang, representing the Minister.

The ceremony began with words from the new Chinese Ambassador, Qi Mei, who welcomed and thanked those present, and said that she felt honoured to represent her country in Equatorial Guinea, and they could further strengthen the ties between the two countries, in addition to their fruitful cooperation.

Furthermore, she summed up the bilateral relation in three phases; first, the constant visits that H. E. Obiang Nguema Mbasogo has made to China; second, the bilateral cooperation on the Electricity network in Malabo and the Hydroelectric Plant in Djibloho, built by a Chinese company, among other works, and third, cultural and educational links. She ended her speech recalling the upcoming celebrations to be held in her country, including 1st October, the 70th Anniversary of the Foundation of the People’s Republic of China, and for 2020, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Equatorial Guinea.

Later, the Secretary of State, Maria A´┐Żngeles Miaga Bibang, gave her speech, pointing out the excellent ties of friendship and cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 15th October 1970 to the present.

Among other things, she pointed out that the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea values the Chinese development model that in just a few decades has transformed it into the second largest economy in the world.

She concluded her speech by wishing the new Ambassador well in her functions, and presented some gifts. She then dined with the guests.
