Ouagadougou: The Minister of Environment, Water and Sanitation, Roger Barro, announced that his department has achieved an execution rate of 47.04% of the objectives contract by June 30, 2025. This progress highlights significant developments in areas such as water, sanitation, reforestation, and waste management.
According to Burkina Information Agency, as of June 30, 2025, 47 out of the 89 expected products have been completed, resulting in a 47.04% execution rate. The minister reported major achievements, including the integration of 1,937 water and forestry agents who contributed to reclaiming national territory.
In the environmental sector, more than 5.7 million plants were planted within one hour during the “patriotic era,” and 38 groves of medicinal plants were installed out of the 45 planned by the President of Faso.
In terms of access to drinking water, over 340,000 people benefited from the construction of 730 hydraulic structures. Regarding sanitation, around 98,000 individuals now have access to community, individual, and public latrines.
In waste management, six landfills have been closed under the cleanliness policy led by the Head of State. The Minister also announced the modernization of 34 hydrometric stations and the commissioning of 11 new ones to enhance rainfall monitoring.
Urban development has seen the creation of three hectares of green spaces and 20 kilometers of alignment plantations to beautify cities.
Minister Barro highlighted challenges for the year’s second half, including rigorous site monitoring, continuing reforestation efforts, finalizing Law 045/2024 on plastic packaging, and securing forest areas.
He urged his colleagues to intensify efforts to meet objectives and ensure equitable access to water, sanitation, and a healthy living environment for all.
