Hong Kong Design Centre Unveils ‘DX Design Hub’ as New Creative Landmark.


Douala: Hong Kong Design Centre’s (HKDC) new landmark, DX design hub (the Hub) successfully concluded its Launching Party today. The celebratory event was attended by guests comprising of top government officials, business leaders, and delegations from Mainland China and France. The Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA) of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is responsible for strategy formulation, coordination, and supervision of the Hub while HKDC is responsible for operating the Hub.

According to Cameroon News Agency, the success of the DX design hub launching party was ensured by the pivotal roles played by various partners, including the Lead Sponsor, CCIDA; Venue Partner, Urban Renewal Authority; 5G Strategic Partner, Hutchison Telecommunications Hong Kong Holdings Limited; Media Partner, Timeout; Online Promotion Partner, Timable; and Strategic Lifestyle Media Partner, Trip.com Group.

Prof. Eric Yim, Chairman of HKDC, emphasized the significance of the
Hub, stating, “The ‘D’ in DX design hub stands for design and diversified design disciplines, while ‘X’ signifies ‘multiply’ and ‘crossover’.” He further explained that the Hub aims to foster communications and collaborative partnerships across various creative and design fields, enriching Hong Kong’s creative culture and encouraging problem-solving through design thinking.

Mr. Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, expressed hopes that the DX design hub would become a creative anchor and tourist landmark in Hong Kong. He highlighted the recent release of the Blueprint for Arts and Culture and Creative Industries Development by the HKSAR government, which sets a clear vision for the future development of cultural arts and creative industries in Hong Kong.

The event marked a significant step towards enhanced industry collaborations through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with different industry associations and sectors. Notable signatories include ECI Awards, Grap
hic Arts Association of Hong Kong, and the Royal Institute of British Architects (Hong Kong Chapter), among others, joining hands to foster innovation and exchange within the design community.

Located in Sham Shui Po, a district known for its rich multicultural heritage and fashion industry, the DX design hub spans 3,600 square meters across five levels. It houses a variety of facilities and publicly accessible zones like The Square, The Fashion-Pop, and The Design Museum. The Hub aims to inspire creativity, nurture emerging talent, and promote tourism in Sham Shui Po.

Opening to the public on December 4, the Hub will host numerous design-related programs, including the ‘GBA Creative Fortnight’ from December 3 to 16. This two-week event will showcase Hong Kong’s design capabilities and encourage collaborations throughout the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, creating a vibrant atmosphere of creativity and design in the city.
