Bamako: The Malian government has announced the initiation of a reciprocal visa program targeting American citizens. This decision comes as a direct response to a recent U.S. policy that mandates a deposit ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 for Malian nationals seeking business and tourist visas, effective from October 23, 2025.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Mali’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed disapproval of the U.S. measure, labeling it as unilateral and inconsistent with the 2005 bilateral agreement that governs long-term multiple-entry visas between the two nations. The Ministry emphasized Mali’s commitment to maintaining a cooperative relationship with the United States, grounded in dialogue and mutual respect.
The Malian government highlighted its continuous efforts to collaborate with Washington in combating illegal immigration, ensuring adherence to the law and upholding human dignity throughout the process. Bamako’s new visa policy underscores the importance it places on reciprocity and fairness in international agreements.
