Homa Bay: Residents of Kanam area in Rachuonyo West Sub County have agreed to allocate land for the establishment of a university by Manda Trustee Kenya. Initially hesitant, the locals have consented to provide 150 acres for the construction of Manda University, which aims to offer a range of courses. According to Kenya News Agency, the change in the residents' stance followed a public participation forum where the benefits of the project were discussed. Charles Otieno Ayieko, chairman of the Homa Hills Development Organisation, stated that reaching a consensus required extensive dialogue. He emphasized the collective decision to partner with Manda Trustee Kenya for community benefit. Ayieko highlighted that the county government had entered into an investment agreement with Manda Trustee Kenya in February 2024. Kanam was identified as a suitable location for the campus. He noted that locals were initially unwilling to part with the land but agreed after understanding the initiative's advantages. Manda Uni versity, registered as Manda Trustee, is a faith-based institution set to offer programs in law, public health, medicine, education, and business and leadership. Jacinta Ogada, Deputy County Commissioner, expressed confidence in the project's future. Local resident Phoebe Otieno described the initiative as a milestone, noting the university's potential to allow local children to pursue education without leaving the region.
