Ouagadougou: After several years of hiatus, the flagship music reality TV show Faso Academy was officially relaunched on Saturday night, during a ceremony chaired by the Minister of Communication, Culture, Arts and Tourism, Gilbert Pingdwend© Ou©draogo. Created to promote youth and reveal talent, Faso Academy had left its mark on the Burkinabe audiovisual landscape before running out of steam and then being replaced by Prodige, without any notable success.
According to Burkina Information Agency, for this new edition, 48 candidates were selected following pre-selections, which mobilized more than 400 applicants across the country. Participants will have to perform three compulsory titles: Ouaga Zeune by Floby, Ropero by Reman, and Pananki by Tanya. Artistic support will be provided by three former academics who have become references: Greg le Burkimbila, Ma Lingani, and Amadou Diabat© (ATT).
"This marks an act of faith in Burkinabe youth," the minister declared. According to him, after a hiatus marked by security, logistical, and budgetary challenges, this artistic and civic school is being reborn. "Its return is a powerful symbol, an act of faith in our youth, in the inestimable talent of our creators," he added.
He further stated, "A proof of resilience, testifying that the Burkinab¨, although tested, continue to sing, shout and innovate, in a surge of unity, reminding us that culture is the cement that unites our nation where trials could crack it."
Beyond entertainment, Faso Academy aims to be an artistic and civic school, as well as a springboard for the future stars of Burkina Faso. The next round of competitions, which begins this Sunday, August 17, 2025, will be held in the community hall of Ouagadougou's central town hall. Admission is free.
