Burkina Minister of Environment Achieves 47.04% Execution Rate of Objectives Contract by Mid-2025

Ouagadougou: The Minister of Environment, Water and Sanitation, Roger Barro, indicated on Wednesday that his department has achieved an execution rate of 47.04% of the objectives contract assigned to it by June 30, 2025, highlighting progress in the areas of water, sanitation, reforestation, and the fight against waste.

According to Burkina Information Agency, as of June 30, 2025, 47 of the 89 expected products have been completed, representing an overall execution rate of 47.04%. This performance includes several achievements, notably the integration of 1,937 water and forestry agents, who contributed to the reconquest of the national territory.

In the environmental field, over 5.7 million plants were planted in one hour as part of the "patriotic era," with the installation of 38 groves of medicinal plants out of the 45 planned by the President of Faso. In terms of access to drinking water, more than 340,000 people have been served thanks to the construction of 730 hydraulic structures.

Regarding sanitation, the minister specified that approximately 98,000 people now benefit from community, individual, and public latrines. Regarding waste management, six landfills have been closed as part of the cleanliness policy implemented by the Head of State, he said.

Furthermore, Minister Roger Barro announced the modernisation of 34 hydrometric stations and the commissioning of 11 new ones to improve rainfall monitoring. As for urbanization, three hectares of green spaces have been developed, as well as 20 kilometers of alignment plantations, as part of the beautification of the cities.

The Minister emphasized the challenges to be addressed during the second half of the year, including the rigorous monitoring of construction sites, the continuation of reforestation, the finalization of the implementing texts of Law 045/2024 on plastic packaging, as well as the security of forest areas. Finally, he called on his colleagues to redouble their efforts to achieve the objectives set and guarantee equitable access to water, sanitation, and a healthy living environment for all.
