Gnagna: 400 IDPs and Vulnerable Families Trained in Breeding Techniques

Gnagna: Nearly 400 participants from diverse backgrounds took part in a free chicken and pig farming training course from August 22 to 23, 2025. This was an opportunity for learning and hope, especially for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable families in Gnagna province.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the training on breeding techniques, held from August 22 to 23, 2025, was led by the Chairman and CEO of Yensanou Boualkoa Services, Josu© Lankoand©, senior breeding technician and consultant-trainer. During these two days, he shared with the 400 participants composed of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and vulnerable families from the province of Gnagna, his knowledge on the anatomy and physiology of the hen, adapted feeding, habitat as well as avian health care.

On the pig farming side, the concepts of reproduction, feeding, habitat and animal health were addressed in detail. "Our goal is to enable our IDP parents and vulnerable people to have the skills to undertake and improve their living conditions," explained Mr. Lankoand©.

In addition to those trained in Bogand©, 282 others benefited from the same training in Pi©la. The training received support from several local stakeholders, including administrative, customary and religious authorities as well as personalities. The provincial director of the Gnagna National Police, Commissioner Issa Congo, welcomed an initiative which, according to him, "is in line with the vision of the President of Faso in terms of agricultural development and the empowerment of producers."

The first vice-president of the Bogand© special delegation, Alice Bikienga/Lankoand©, for her part, encouraged other actors to follow the example in order to increase opportunities for the population. Many participants expressed their satisfaction at the end of the training. "I'm leaving with practical knowledge that will allow me to start a small livestock farm at home. This could be a source of income and food for my family," said Pierrette Tindano, an internally displaced person.

Beyond the acquisition of know-how, the initiative aims to be a lever of hope for hundreds of households seeking resilience in a context marked by insecurity and precariousness.
