Douala: A 25-year-old woman, identified as Vitore Mbabang, allegedly stabbed her lover, 36-year-old Omang Botsa, to death after he attempted to end their three-month relationship. The incident occurred in the early hours of February 15, after the couple returned home from a night of partying and drinking.
According to Cameroon News Agency, Omang Botsa’s aunt, Marie, recounted the tragic events that unfolded that night. She described being awakened by Omang’s cries for help, as he called out for his mother and aunt before collapsing at her feet, bleeding profusely. Despite efforts to rush him to the hospital, Omang succumbed to his injuries before reaching the facility.
The couple’s brief but tumultuous relationship had not raised significant alarms among family members until after the incident. Omang’s younger sister, Larissa, revealed that Vitore had threatened him with a knife earlier in the day, a detail shared by neighborhood children only after his death. Furthermore, Vitore had expressed intentions to break up with Omang the previous week, citing emotional distress and external influences.
Vitore’s actions are believed to have stemmed from her refusal to accept Omang’s desire to end the relationship. She had previously brought her two-year-old child to live with Omang but had taken the child away a week before the fatal incident. Family members reported that Vitore had resorted to manipulative tactics, including blackmail, in a bid to maintain control over the relationship.
Omang was remembered fondly by his neighbors as a gentle and kind man, despite his involvement in taekwondo. At the time of reporting, his body had been taken to the L’Aquintinie Mortuary. Vitore reportedly surrendered to the police following pressure from her sister, after initially fleeing the crime scene.
