Kossi/CONASUR: 300 Tonnes of Food Allocated for Vulnerable Populations in Nouna

Nouna: The first vice-president of the special delegation of the commune of Nouna, Father Ren© Simboro, chaired an important meeting on August 6, 2025, regarding the distribution of 300 tonnes of food provided by the National Emergency Relief Council (CONASUR) for vulnerable people in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the government of Burkina Faso, along with its partners, is working to support vulnerable populations through initiatives like this free distribution of food. The allocation includes 160 tonnes of 25 kg rice, 95 tonnes of 50 kg corn, 100 boxes of 50 cans of sardines, and 150 boxes of sugar, all intended to address the immediate needs of those affected.

The distribution poses logistical challenges for the provincial management responsible for humanitarian action and necessitates the engagement of community leaders. A detailed distribution plan has been crafted by the municipality of Nouna and the provincial directorate of humanitarian action, outlining specific localities, the number of beneficiaries, and the amount of food to be distributed.

Alassane Kagon©, the provincial director of humanitarian action in Kossi, detailed a distribution strategy based on a per-person ratio. The operation is structured around a defined distribution period and is closely monitored to ensure timely reporting and record-keeping.

Kagon© also mentioned that a review meeting is planned to evaluate the distribution process and derive lessons from the experience. Father Ren© Simboro emphasized the critical role of community leaders in ensuring the operation's success and called for their full engagement.

The meeting also highlighted various concerns from stakeholders regarding understanding the process, proposing improvements, and ensuring effective support. There is a strong recommendation among participants for the distribution to commence effectively in August.
