Manchester: Manchester United are expected to open talks with Brentford over striker Bryan Mbeumo. United head coach Ruben Amorim is prioritising signing additional striking firepower this summer to bolster his misfiring attack.
According to BBC, the Old Trafford side scored only 44 Premier League goals last season, marking the fifth lowest tally in the league. Big-money signings Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed only four and three goals respectively. This has prompted Amorim to look for players who can invigorate United’s offensive lineup.
Mbeumo, who has been with Brentford since signing from French club Troyes in 2019, is not a natural number nine. However, he is viewed as versatile, dynamic, powerful, and fast, qualities that Amorim is keen to add to his squad. The coach is particularly interested in players who offer flexibility on the field.
Despite growing reports suggesting Bruno Fernandes has turned down a substantial offer from Saudi Pro-League club Al-Hilal, it is understood that this will not affect any potential deal for Mbeumo. Additionally, like many top players, including United goalkeeper Andre Onana, Mbeumo has been left out of his national squad for the upcoming friendlies against Uganda and Equatorial Guinea.
