Nakamb©: Epidemiological Surveillance Holds Up Despite Challenges

Nakamb©: The Nakamb© Regional Epidemic Management Committee convened for its second quarterly session of 2025 to address the state of health surveillance amid challenging conditions.

According to Burkina Information Agency, during the session's opening ceremony, Sayouba Ou©draogo, the Secretary General of the Nakamb© region, highlighted the alarming health statistics. As of week 28, the region reported over 128,000 malaria cases, including 41,000 among children under five, alongside 139 measles cases, 57 meningitis cases, and 390 suspected dengue fever cases.

Dr. Issa Guir©, the Regional Health Director, emphasized the session's objective to evaluate the epidemiological surveillance system for the second quarter. He stressed the importance of a multisectoral "One Health" approach, integrating health, environment, livestock, and agriculture sectors. Collaboration with community organizations and partners was also a focus of communication efforts.

Dr. Bourama Ouattara, the chief medical officer of the Bittou health district, confirmed that the early warning system functions effectively across all regions, including those with challenging access. He noted the crucial role of community involvement and community-based health workers in data collection and reporting.

Participants in the session reiterated their dedication to enhancing responses to epidemic-prone diseases, adhering to the "One Health" strategy. The meeting concluded with recommendations to improve stakeholder coordination and ensure the continuity of interventions.
