Kajiado: Stalled road works within the country are set to resume as the government sets aside Sh175 billion for their completion. Speaking in Kajiado Central after commissioning the Oloosuyian bridge, the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Davis Chirchir, announced the government's commitment to advancing road construction across the nation.
According to Kenya News Agency, Chirchir disclosed that 40 percent of the road construction funds have already been disbursed to contractors as part of a supplementary agreement. He stated that contractors are expected to resume work within ten days while the government processes the next 40 percent of payments starting Monday. Payments will be made based on work delivery milestones.
Contractors owed Sh50 million and below have received full payments from the government. Chirchir emphasized that the allocated funds are designated specifically for stalled projects and will not be diverted to other initiatives.
The CS expressed his intention to collaborate with Kajiado county leadership to enhance road infrastructure, noting the county's inclusion in the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport Authority. This development aims to facilitate easier movement of residents between Nairobi city and their homes in Kajiado.
Chirchir also highlighted the construction of the Oloosuyian bridge, which connects Kajiado Central and West constituencies, by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) at a cost of Sh124 million. He committed to immediately constructing a 1-kilometre tarmac road linking the bridge to Kajiado town using the supplementary budget, with plans to extend the road by another 9 km to Kipeto town in the future.
