Throne Day in Ouagadougou: Morocco Reiterates Its Full Solidarity with Burkina Faso in Its Fight Against Terrorism and Violent Extremism

Ouagadougou: On the occasion of the commemoration of the 26th Anniversary of the Throne Day, the Ambassador of the Kingdom Youssef Slaoui reiterated Wednesday evening in Ouagadougou, "Morocco's full solidarity with Burkina Faso in its tireless efforts to fight the scourge of terrorism and violent extremism."

According to Burkina Information Agency, Youssef Slaoui, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco to Burkina Faso, emphasized the support Morocco offers Burkina Faso in combating terrorism and violent extremism. Slaoui assured that Burkina Faso would always find a reliable partner in Morocco, committed to supporting stability and development initiatives.

The Moroccan diplomat made these remarks during the 26th Anniversary of the Throne Day of the Kingdom of Morocco, marking the accession of King Mohammed VI to the throne. The event was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©, along with ambassadors, diplomats, former diplomats, religious and traditional dignitaries, and friends of Morocco.

Youssef Slaoui highlighted the "bonds of friendship and traditional brotherhood between the Moroccan and Burkinabe peoples," strengthened by mutual respect between King Mohammed VI and Captain Ibrahim Traor©, President of Faso. He noted the countries' shared goal to make their partnership a model of inter-African South-South cooperation.

Bilateral relations between Morocco and Burkina Faso have been solidified by the signing of the Military Cooperation Agreement in July 2024 and the recent Morocco-Burkina Faso Inter-State Committee meeting in Rabat, aimed at selecting Burkinabe candidates for Moroccan scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year.

Additionally, a Royal Audience with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Karamoko Jean Marie Traor©, and counterparts from Mali and Niger, reaffirmed support for King Mohammed VI's initiative to facilitate Sahel countries' access to the Atlantic.

The coming months will see the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, coupled with the 5th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Ouagadougou. This session will further consolidate partnerships in sectors like transport, vocational training, agriculture, health, and more.

The diplomat also recalled the 4th session of the Joint Cooperation Commission in Dakhla, Morocco, on June 9, 2023, which aimed at furthering bilateral relations. The abolition of visas for ordinary passport holders has facilitated movement between the two countries, marking a significant diplomatic development.
