Residents in Djibo Mobilize for Extensive Reforestation Effort

Djibo: Residents mobilize for massive reforestation: On the occasion of the National Tree Days, the municipality of Djibo organized, this Saturday, August 9, 2025, a vast reforestation operation within the grounds of Primary School A. More than a hundred seedlings were planted thanks to an exemplary mobilization of the authorities and the population.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative was spearheaded by the community's youth collective, aligning with the National Tree Days. The operation successfully led to the planting of over a hundred plants of various species, representing a significant environmental effort in the region.

The event's official launch was overseen by the High Commissioner of Soum Province, Mr. Wend N©r© Wilfried Tougouma. He not only initiated the planting but also participated actively in it. During his speech, Mr. Tougouma lauded the public's participation and highlighted the critical need for environmental preservation, especially in light of ongoing climate change and deforestation challenges.

The event saw attendance from several high-profile figures, including the provincial director of the Environment, local service heads, the representative of Djibo's prefect, members of the Defense and Security Forces, and numerous customary and religious authorities. The presence of women and youth from the commune was notably significant, demonstrating widespread community support.

Organizers emphasized that this reforestation effort is more than a symbolic act; it is a proactive measure against the rampant tree felling in Djibo in recent years. This deforestation poses a threat to biodiversity and exacerbates desertification. The organizers stressed the importance of ongoing plant monitoring to ensure their growth and long-term viability.

Participants used the occasion to discuss effective natural resource management and tree maintenance strategies. Public awareness messages were disseminated, encouraging individuals to adopt simple yet sustainable ecological practices in their daily lives.

Through this event, Djibo has reiterated its dedication to restoring its vegetation and ensuring that future generations inherit a healthier and greener environment. Local authorities have pledged support for similar initiatives across various neighborhoods and villages in the commune.

The day concluded on a positive note, with participants firmly believing that the success of this reforestation effort hinges on collective commitment.
