CHAN 2024: Stallions A’ Again Eliminated from the Competition

Dar-es-salaam: The Stallions A' of Burkina Faso are eliminated from the 8th African Nations Championship (CHAN) after their 1-0 defeat on Wednesday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar-Es-Salaam (Tanzania) against the Mourabitounes of Mauritania, in Group B, noted the AIB.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Stallions A' were playing their third survival match in this 5-a-side Group B, dominated by the Taifa Star of Tanzania. Only one ticket was at stake for three teams (Burkina, Madagascar, and Mauritania) in the group, after Tanzania qualified for the quarter-finals on home soil.

Despite having a game in hand, Burkina Faso is no longer in contention. Madagascar's Bar©as defeated the Central African Republic 2-0 and put themselves back in contention. With four points, if the Malagasy team beats Burkina Faso next Saturday, they will have a chance to reach the quarterfinals with seven points, like Mauritania, who played their last match tonight.

The Burkina Faso team, which had started their match timidly, complicated their task with the expulsion of Abdoulaye Tour© before the break (41st). A harsh red card judged by the VAR. The Burkinabe's game subsequently fell apart with poor ball transitions and a lack of understanding in the final pass.

Issa Balbon©'s men entered the match timidly but managed a few incursions into the opposing camp without being able to worry the Mourabitounes goalkeeper, showing some technical errors on the part of the players.

In the second half, the Burkinabe team started the game well, but with 10 against 11, the equation was more difficult to solve, despite the contribution of the bench. Mauritania, tactically well-positioned, managed the match with a few forays from El Mami Tetah that could have hit the mark if Burkinabe goalkeeper Ladji Sanou hadn't been careful. In the counterattack that followed, Abdoul Baguian could have also equalized if his header had been well placed (78th).

The Stallions A' of Burkina Faso will play their 4th and final match for honor on Saturday, August 16 in Zanzibar against the Bar©as of Madagascar while the Taifa Star of Tanzania will face the Fauves du Bas-Oubangui of the Central African Republic in Dar-Es-Salaam.

In this Group B, Tanzania occupies the first place with 9 points (+4), followed by Mauritania with 7 points (+1), Madagascar (4 points +1), Burkina Faso (3 points -1), and Central African Republic (0 points -5). For the 4th time, the Stallions failed to get past the first round of CHAN.

The CHAN Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda 2024 postponed to 2025, will be played from August 2 to 30.
