Homa bay: Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki has called on Kenyans to unite in combating corruption, ethnic sectarianism, and violent extremism, identifying these issues as the primary threats to the nation's prosperity.
According to Kenya News Agency, Kindiki made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the 9th Devolution Conference in Homa Bay. He emphasized that the conference underscored devolution as a crucial tool for equity, democracy, and service delivery. The event gathered national and county leaders, civil society members, and development partners to discuss reinforcing devolution for equitable development.
Deliberations at the conference focused on themes such as good governance, human rights, and inclusion. Kindiki highlighted the importance of public participation, transparency, and adherence to the rule of law. He also affirmed the government's commitment to strengthening devolution as a means to achieve inclusion, equity, and social justice in Kenya.
Kindiki praised the National Treasury for the timely disbursement of funds and encouraged collaboration between national and county governments on initiatives like County Aggregation and Industrial Parks and the health sector. The Council of Governors Chair Ahmed Abdullahi expressed gratitude to President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and Azimio leader Raila Odinga for their support.
