CHAN 2024: Burkina Faso Triumphs Over Central African Republic with a 4-2 Victory

Dar-es-salaam: The Stallions A' of Burkina Faso secured a commanding 4-2 victory against the Fauves du Bas-Oubangui of the Central African Republic at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium. This win marks a significant rebound for Burkina Faso in Group B of the African Nations Championship (CHAN KE-TZ-UG 2024).

According to Burkina Information Agency, the Burkinabe team managed to overturn their previous setback against Tanzania with an impressive display. Coach Issa Balbon© opted for a strategic shift from a 4-1-4-1 to a 4-3-3 formation, which paid off. Despite an early equalizer by the Central African Republic, the Burkinabe side dominated the second half. Two penalties, expertly converted by Abass Guiro and captain Patrick Malo, were instrumental in securing the victory.

The match saw Burkinabe striker Nasser Papus Ouattara opening the scoring in the 11th minute, with Sydney Tchibinda responding for the Central Africans shortly after. However, Burkina Faso's persistent pressure led to a second-half collapse of their opponents' defense, culminating in a fourth goal by Abdoul Karim Baguian. A late consolation goal by Ange Zoumara for the Central African Republic closed the match.

Midfielder Josaphat Ouattara, recognized as the man of the match, dedicated his accolade to his mother, attributing the win to collective team effort. Coach Issa Balbon© expressed satisfaction with his team's performance but acknowledged the need to improve defensive transitions.

The Central African Republic's coach, S©bastien Ngato, expressed pride in his team's performance despite the loss, highlighting their debut in the competition. He raised concerns about the use of VAR, suggesting biased decisions against smaller football nations.

Burkina Faso is set to face Mauritania in their next match on August 13, while the Central African Republic will also compete against Mauritania. The 2024 CHAN is being hosted across Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania from August 2 to 30.
