Piela: The commune of Piela, in the Sirba region, hosted a public conference led by student Limonipo Lankoande on the theme of citizen monitoring's role in the Popular Progressive Revolution (RPP).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the event held on September 20, 2025, aimed to define civic vigilance, revolution, and patriotism, emphasizing the necessity for Burkinabe citizens to contribute to peace through various forms of support, including financial, material, spiritual, or moral efforts.
Lankoande stressed that citizen monitoring encompasses more than just vigil activities at roundabouts, extending to any support for authorities and combat forces. Proposed initiatives included pro-nation communication during wartime, local awareness campaigns, financial aid, support for internally displaced persons, reforestation, and the promotion of popular shareholding.
During the discussion segment, participants shared their contributions. A local hairdresser pledged to train ten young people at no cost, and a voluntary donation was collected to support the local civic watch section.
Rene Lankoande, president of the Piela Traders' Association, spoke at the event, urging unity and the abandonment of hatred and "old politics." He advocated for strong collaboration between civilians and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland.
Municipal president Talata Issaka Kafando of Piela Citizen Watch reaffirmed their commitment to peace and sustainable development, encouraging youth to engage actively in collective well-being.
The day concluded with a gala match between Piela's young people and civil servants, ending in a 2-1 victory for the youth. The conference served as a call for unity and patriotic commitment among the population.
