Minister Isma«l Sombi© Promotes Orchard Rejuvenation in Orodara

K©n©dougou: The Minister of State, Minister in charge of Agriculture, Isma«l Sombi©, visited Orodara to hand over mango seedlings to producers as part of the 2023-2025 Agro-sylvo-pastoral Offensive. This initiative aims to rejuvenate orchards by creating new ones, pruning old orchards, or replacing them entirely.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the General Directorate of Plant Production (DGPV) facilitated this effort by acquiring 175,000 mango plants from local nurserymen in Orodara. These plants have been made available to the ministry, marking the symbolic start of distribution to regional offices. The handover event was complemented by technical advice for producers to ensure the success of this initiative.

During his visit to the Cit© du Verger, Minister Sombi© engaged with producers to discuss challenges they encounter, such as combatting fruit flies, managing the cost of mango production, and addressing water supply issues for irrigation. In an effort to support innovative agricultural solutions, the minister was introduced to "Barbari Plants," a hydrophilic substance developed by private developer Serges Kambir©. This product is capable of retaining water during dry seasons and aids the growth of young plants.

Minister Sombi©'s visit concluded with a tour of the ongoing fruit market construction site, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress and encouraged all involved stakeholders.
