The Presidency of the Government has issued a press release to mark the publication of an article in the “Voz de la Democracia” on Monday 24th September. Due to the diffusion of the content, the Government wishes to express its indignation through the full document attached to this article.
The Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea wishes to declare its most fervent indignation at the publication, on 24th September this year, in the so-called “Voz de la Democracia” via its web page. The publication was an article on the province of Annobon that, over thirty years ago, the Spanish newspaper El Pais published in its print version on 22nd September 1988, the contents of which shows images and deeds corresponding to the past of sad memories in our country.
Once again, we are faced with an action within the usual practice of this group from the diaspora that, due to a lack of arguments and credibility which allows it to form a democratic opposition, has taken shelter in the economic support it receives from western hands, in order to distort and denigrate the image and current situation in our peaceful nation. Those who know the true situation of progress not only on the island of Annobon, but throughout national territory, can do nothing but declare repulsion for the use of an article in which such degrading terms are used not only to describe our Annobonese brothers, but the entire Equatoguinean people.
With only a few weeks remaining before the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of our National Independence, the Government of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea is stressing the importance to safeguard and protect the image of our young nation against the continuous attacks from abroad, the sole aim of which is to lie and spread news that tarnish and smear all the achievements attained.
